Nicki Minaj Says Pink Friday Is “Progressing Miraculously” [Video]
August 4th, 2010
adminNicki Minaj‘s Barbie army is likely to create a frenzy at stores when the rapper drops her debut LP, Pink Friday, on November 23. Speaking to MTV News on the video set of her Trey Songz collabo, “Bottoms Up,” the Young Money diva updated her fans about how the album is coming along.
“The album is progressing miraculously, I would say,” Minaj said. “It’s coming out way better than I could even have imagined or dreamed or hoped for.”
The Queens MC has made her mark with a slew of collaborations, from her girl-power breakup anthem with Mariah Carey, “Up Out My Face,” to the sexed-up bars she dropped on Usher’s “Lil Freak.” However, the raptress revealed that she’s enjoying the process of creating solo records, where she is the main focus and not just the memorable feature.
“It’s been very exciting to finally just make music that I love and not really having to incorporate myself on someone else’s record,” Minaj said. “I’ve been having a really great time.”
Minaj also singled out a Pink Friday track that she said has the potential to be a major hit.
“I have a record called ‘Right Through Me’ that I think will be a standout,” Minaj said. “It’s not gonna come right now. It’ll come closer to when the album drops, but it’s a really, really pretty song. Everyone’s gonna like it.” The MC also discussed the appeal of the record, saying, “It’s just really insightful but in a very conversational kind of way.”
Minaj also said she’s been mulling how the album cover for her debut will shape up and only revealed that it will be “very fetch.” While the MC remained mum on the details, she did speak about what makes an eye-catching cover.
“A good album cover is something that tells your own personal truth,” said Minaj, citing Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready to Die cover as one of her favorites. “Something that’s not just trying to catch someone’s attention, but rather … kind of feels like a part of your soul, a part of your creative expression.”

Chris Brown Puts His Spin On Nicki Minaj’s ‘Your Love’ [New Music]
August 4th, 2010
adminDespite a year of difficult career speed bumps, including his postponed U.K. promotional tour and the controversy surrounding his Michael Jackson tribute performance at the BET Awards, Chris Brown remains optimistic about getting through the rough times. His latest career move is his remix of Nicki Minaj‘s hit single “Your Love,” which the singer posted on Twitter and informed fans that something special may be heading their way.
“i just smashed this beat!!! UR LOVE REMIX DONE!!! for the ladies,” he tweeted early Wednesday (August 4).
On the cover, Brown sings an ode to his female interest as he belts over the song’s Annie Lennox sample and hip-hop backbeats. “Shorty, I’mma tell you this once/ Girl need it (tonight)/ When I do it to you home and do it right, please believe it/ All night long, baby right now/ When you lay in my arms,” he sings during the chorus. Showing off his versatility, Breezy becomes more aggressive during the song’s second verse both vocally and lyrically as he explicitly raps, “Yeah, let me step up to the plate now/ Big kids in the room, no playground/ I wanna kiss everything from the waist down/ Keep ya ass up and your face down.”
And it wouldn’t be right if Brown didn’t name-drop Minaj in the mix that praises a woman in and out of bed. “We can role-play, girl, give it to me now/ I’m giving you a massage/ A booty like Nicki Minaj/ Oh gosh,” he croons.
Hours after Brown posted his remix, Nicki seemed satisfied with four different remixes of her song as she urged DJs to start spinning. “Ok DJ’s!!! 4 remixes to ‘your love’ by @rickyrozay, @duttypaul, @chrisbrown and @jaysean and they’re ALL DOPE! Play them!
#pinkfriday,” she said of her song, which currently holds the #1 spot on the Billboard Rap Songs chart.
Aside from posting his cover of Minaj’s song, the singer also asked fans if they wanted another Breezy mixtape. “do yall want an “IN MY ZONE 2″!!! just a thought #inmyzone2,” he tweeted.
While another mixtape isn’t certain at this point, Brown assured fans that the follow-up to last year’s Graffiti is in the works. “My new album will come next year or sooner but in the meantime i might ‘I MIGHT’ do something special for yall again!!!” he teased.
Back in June, Drake said that he and Brown hit the studio together shortly after attending the 2010 BET Awards. It is unknown what, if anything, the duo cooked up, but the Young Money rapper revealed that he wanted to collaborate with others as his project was finished. “I was studio hopping, seeing where I could lend my hand to whoever’s project since I’ve done mine,” Drake said.

Nicki Minaj In ‘Heaven’ Over VMA Nomination
August 3rd, 2010
adminIt was just a few years ago when Young Money honey Nicki Minaj would gather ’round the TV at home with her family and settle in to watch the MTV Video Music Awards. But with her first nomination locked down in the hotly contested Best New Artist category at the 2010 VMAs, Minaj said on Tuesday (August 3) that she can hardly believe she’s going to the big game this year.
“I feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven,” Minaj said from her Los Angeles home about her debut VMA nom. “I definitely thought I’d get one someday, but not before I put the album out. I never thought I’d get a nomination [this year]. … I didn’t even think I’d get invited!”
Not only does Minaj have her golden ticket, she’s going head-to-head with fellow newbies Ke$ha, Jason Derülo, Justin Bieber and indie-rock supergroup Broken Bells. Minaj said she was at home on Tuesday morning when she heard the news and didn’t believe it at first.
“Someone sent me an e-mail saying congratulations and I was like, ‘For what?’ And they said, ‘For the VMA.’ And I was like, ‘What was I nominated for?’ And when they said, ‘Best New Artist,’ I just started screaming.”
So far, she said she’s gotten text-message congratulations from some of her Cash Money and Young Money crew, but she was still waiting to hear from incarcerated capo Lil Wayne.
As for her chances in the category, Minaj, whose nod is for her “Massive Attack” video, said she definitely considers herself the “underdog,” but isn’t too worried about that right now. “I’m mostly just thinking about what hair I’m gonna do,” she said when asked if she’d started putting an outfit together. “I haven’t given much thought about what I’m going to wear. It’s always a freakin’ magical movie!”

Nicki Minaj Announces New Album Title, “Pink Friday” [Video]
August 3rd, 2010
adminLast week, Nicki Minaj made a promise to fans that if she reached 1 million followers on Twitter, she’d spend time chatting with them on Ustream. She reached that milestone, so on Tuesday (August 3) the Young Money rapper chatted with fans about a number of topics, including her Best New Artist nomination at this year’s Video Music Awards.
But the big news of the night came when she revealed that her highly anticipated debut album, which is scheduled to drop November 23, would be called Pink Friday.
“To carry on our great tradition of Black Friday, we are going to switch it up this year in honor of the Nicki Minaj album and call that day Pink Friday and call my album Pink Friday,” she said. “Black Friday,” the day after Thanksgiving that marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season, will occur this year on November 26, three days after the album’s release date.
During the three-hour chat, the Harajuku Barbie also gave a sneak peek of her alter-ego Roman Zolanski and said that her album will be chock-full of tracks that haven’t made their way to the Internet yet.
“So whenever, you know, people have been leaking sh– and taking vocals and putting it on wack-ass beats and all this sh–, none that sh– is off of my album and when something comes out that is off my album, I’ll let you know,” she explained.
Minaj added that she’s on the verge of releasing her next single.
The ever-eccentric MC thanked MTV for giving her a VMA nomination before her first album has even dropped. “I wanted to first say that today I found out I was nominated for a VMA and I want to thank MTV for that,” she said during the chat, which reached over 14,000 fans.
“It’s because I am the underdog — but you know what, I haven’t put out an album and I’m nominated for a VMA. So I wanted to thank you guys for making that possible.”
The rapper’s session was originally scheduled to happen Monday evening, but had to be postponed when Minaj experienced some travel issues, which she chronicled on Twitter.
