Nicki Minaj Is Among “The Greatest Of Our Time”

Nicki Minaj

Kanye West, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and Ke$ha have all just dropped or will soon drop new albums. So how is it that Young Money Crew’s leading lady, Nicki Minaj, is getting so much attention for her new release? Rapper Mike Bless has an idea.
“Nicki Minaj was doing $50,000 a show before she even had an album,” Bless told Niteside. “Even a year ago, that was unheard of. She is part of the phenomenon that is teaching artists that it’s all about creating a buzz. You can no longer just drop an album and hope it goes well.”
Minaj prefers the hands-on approach. Plus, she’s got skills.
“She is one on the greatest artist of the year,” Bless said. “A lot people might disagree, but I think one day she and rappers like Trina will be named some of the greatest rappers of our time. They are great examples for woman — not only are they out-rapping most of the guys, but they have talent, swag, the image. They dominate in a male dominated game.”

Nicki Minaj Claims Billboard Chart Title

Nicki Minaj "Pink Friday"

Nicki Minaj is in good company. With her debut album Pink Friday bowing at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 this week, the Young Money rapper has officially broken the record for second highest first-week sales by a female MC in Billboard’s history, moving 375,190 units.

Lauryn Hill holds the title for highest opening week sales by a female hip-hop act with her solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which sold 423,000 copies in September 1998. But Nicki points out that Ms. Hill wasn’t categorized under the “Hip-Hop/Rap” genre.

“Pink Friday has the 2nd highest debut week in the HISTORY of FEMALE RAP w/375,190 units sold. Thank u sooo much 4 supporting this project!” tweeted Nicki, later adding, “Interesting. Lauryn sold 422,000 in the 1st wk w/Miseducation! That album wasn’t categorized as HipHop/Rap under ‘genre.’ So Pink Friday under the ‘HipHop/Rap’ genre has the highest selling first week from a female in HISTORY.”

Before Nicki, Missy Elliott sold the most first-week copies under the “Hip-Hop/Rap” genre with her 2002 album Under Construction (259,000). “I am in the company of 2 amazing groundbreaking women & for that, I am beyond grateful. S/O to Lauryn and Missy. #PinkFriday,” wrote the Harajuku Barbie.

Kanye West & Nicki Minaj Rule The Chart

Kanye West & Nicki Minaj

Kanye West and Nicki Minaj are the king and queen of Billboard. The hip-hop titans outperformed the competition last week, earning the top two spots on the albums chart.

West’s critically-acclaimed fifth album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 496,000 copies sold in its first week, according to final figures released by Billboard. This is his fourth straight No. 1 album following 2008’s 808s & Heartbreak.

Not to be overshadowed by her “Monster” collaborator, Nicki Minaj put up her own impressive numbers as her debut Pink Friday comes in second place with 375,000. This gives her the second highest one-week sales by a female hip-hop act since Lauryn Hill, who holds the record with 423,000 units sold of 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

You can’t stop Bieber fever. Justin Bieber’s Walmart and Sam’s Club-exclusive set, My Worlds Acoustic, comes in at No. 7 with 115,000, giving him his third top 10 album in a little over a year.

Ne-Yo’s Libra Scale rounds out the top 10 at No. 9 with 112,000 copies, falling short of the opening week sales of his previous three offerings. Lloyd Banks’ H.F.M. 2 (The Hunger for More 2) eats up 44,000 units to enter at No. 25, while Ke$ha’s Cannibal devours the No. 15 spot (74,000).

Many releases were expected to see a boost during the Black Friday shopping weekend, but didn’t meet initial projections.

(Video) Regis Philbin Smacks Nicki Minaj’s Butt

Nicki Minaj Butt Smack

Regis almost smacked Nicki Minaj on her fat ass, instead, he settled for her upper thigh. I guess that outfit drove him so crazy that he even told a dirty joke, also. I guess this is what happens when you put the Bronx and Queens together. This was taken from the 11/29/2010 episode. Nicki was there to sing “Right Thru Me”, and to promote her Pink Friday album.

I like how Kelly says “I don’t even know where to go”, as if that butt was so big that is was blocking her path.

This could be a set-up. It was weird that Regis made a big deal about Lil Wayne, and asked her about advice Lil Wayne gave her, which led him straight into the dirty joke. That’s the kind of thing that happens on late-night shows a lot. Regis usually needs cue cards to do it, and I didn’t see him reading, so it’s hard to tell, but it is suspicious.

In terms of this being sexual harassment, this is similar to the case of that hot reporter in the Jets locker room. The reporter wasn’t the one who complained about the treatment, so it wasn’t harassment. All Nicki would have to do is give an interview complaining about Regis, and he would be in big of trouble, but she didn’t. That’s if this whole thing wasn’t a set-up

(Video) JR Rotem Speaks On “Fly” Featuring Rihanna From “Pink Friday”

Nicki Minaj may be an upstart artist, but the Lil Wayne protégé handles her business like a veteran.

For “Fly,” from her debut, Pink Friday, Minaj reached out to producer J.R. Rotem (Britney Spears, Rick Ross, Leona Lewis) to helm the track, an inspirational tune that was a last-minute addition to the album.

“Near the tail end of her project, I came into the studio and I had some tracks [for her]. That was one of the ones I was excited about,” Rotem told MTV News. “When I played it for her, she knew instantly: ‘Yes, this is the record.’ She connected with it immediately. I could just tell she was excited by it, which excited me.”

The demo version of “Fly” featured a studio session singer on the hook, but Minaj had another idea, namely Rihanna.

“That would be great,” the producer recalled telling Minaj. “But getting Rihanna to do a hook for you is easier said than done. He added, “I think that speaks to Nicki’s star power. I said, ‘Yeah, she’s definitely first choice.’ ”

Time passed, Rotem e-mailed Nicki and the two went back and forth until the rapper told him Rihanna had agreed to sing on the track.

“It took time because she was promoting her own album and traveling overseas,” he said. “It happened, and I heard it when Nicki gave me the record and it really was one of those incredible things that was really a blessing. It manifested. She said she wanted it and it happened.”
